Kids Art and Nature Play Date - Wednesdays

By Found and Rewound (other events)

9 Dates Through Nov 18, 2020

ABOUT ABOUT

Looking for ways to foster creativity and connection for your children during this challenging time of socially distanced life? Allow professional artist Jordan Kim, to do just that by guiding your 5-12 year old though an online, 1.5-hour creative project designed to explore our connections to each other and the natural world.

Every Wednesday we will meet virtually using Zoom for a creative play date to do a unique art project that incorporates social/emotional learning and lessons on the natural world.  You can sign your child(ren) up for one, many, or all of the dates!  Each week's project and focus will be different.  Every class will use a playful, engaging, and supportive tone.  We place the highest value on curiosity, the creative journey, and taking risks over achieving an expected outcome or finished product.  Most projects will have some extension component that can be done independently once class is over.  Attendees will not know what the project is ahead of time, but can trust it to be a completely unique, fun, STEAM-type creative experience.

To participate in these classes, it will be helpful to have the following supplies on hand:

  • Scissors
  • Watercolors
  • Crayons or oil pastels
  • Paint pens
  • Black Sharpie pen
  • Black and white acrylic or tempera paint
  • Heavy white paper (watercolor or mixed media paper is great)
  • Texture tools - anything that can be used with acrylic paint to stamp or texture (bubble wrap, unsharpened pencil, paint brush, sponge, toilet paper tube, etc.)
  • Printer - for parent to print templates before class, if needed

If you need any of these items and live in the Gorge area, Tokki Art Supply can help you get these supplies depending on availability. If this is not an option, contact me and I will work with you to come up with alternative supplies that will work.

Once registered, the day before class you will be sent a secure link and password to log your child into the class on any device (phone, computer or tablet) at the scheduled class time.  You can choose to allow your child to share his/her screen or not.  Jordan will give *live* instruction.  (*Note that this is not a pre-recorded class!) If you opt to allow screen sharing, children can get personal assistance with their projects.  This is not a requirement for the course.

Jordan is a professional mixed media collage artist, a teaching artist with Arts in Education of the Gorge, and was a professional ecologist for over 15 years.  She frequently teaches students ranging from 5-85 years old through schools, in-person workshops, and virtual platforms.

Cost  is $20/class. **Please note: Class fee is per household of up to 3 siblings.  If you have more than 3 children or more than one family signing on via the same computer, I ask that you please purchase another registration for each additional family, or  3 additional siblings. Thanks for your understanding.
